REPORTED GOLD DISC O VER Y IN KA WHIA.
Mr William Moore, one of two prospectors who have (according to his account), been pvospecting for gold in Kawhia and the adjoining country, has just returned, and affords the information that they have found gold between Kawhia and Mokau. From fear of the natives, they were unable to proceed further with their search, and have now gone to Auckland. Moore's mate, who did not pass this way, but went by way of Alexandra, took with him several specimens. His name is William Fox. From what I have been able to gather, I imagine they both hail from Reefton. I slightly doubt the honesty of their repoit ; but in the face of the fact that the natives have long affirmed that the country spoken of is auriferous I feel myself per&uaded to give some credence to their narrative. The best proof of the veracity of Mr Moore's story will be the production of the specimens which he says Mr Fox has ; for the present let us hope that the reported discovery is bona fide. — [Raglan Correspondent, March 6th.]
