NATIVE OBSTRUCTION AT MATAHURA.
A. correspondent writing from Huntly on Tuesday says : — The Maoris have again set five to the Matahura road. These are the same natives who have been interfering with Mrs Hill's occupation of her land, and are now living on the place, having it planted with corn and potatoes, keeping Mrs Hill out of her property for three years. The Government refuse to take any steps to remove them, and Mrs Hill is in danger of her life if she attempts to occupy the place. Now that the A.C. Force are coming from Taranaki, ten or twelve men working on the roads near this placa would keep tilings in order. The* Waikato County Council have been ,I*. great expense making the Toles' Hill-Matalmra road, but the Maoris do not want it to go via Piako, as it will break up their nest, and they wish, therefore, to destroy the road. For the protection of public, as well as private property, I hope the Government will see fit to send some men clown here.
