Thk three days' meeting began to-day, about 8000 persons being on the course. The weather was exceptionally fine. The Austnan Strauss Band was present. The public did a little sweepstake business, but in a half secret fashion, and the police took the names of one party who went openly to it; these included two Dunedin M.H, R. 's.
