[BY TELEGRAPH —OWN COREESPONDENTS.] AUCKLAND, Last Night.

The Premier paid a flying visit to Helensville, to-day, accompanied by Mi* Hurst. He conferred with the residents on local requirements, returning to Auckland at three o'clock. He goes with Mr Whitaker on Monday to the Thames, and thence via Waikato to the lakes. Mr Bryce is expected to arrive at Onehunga to-morrow morning. The hearing of the arson case against MeiTick has resulted in a committal for trial. At the Boaid of Education, to-day, the tender of Ahier and McGinlie, £172, for improvements to the teacher's residence at Paterangi, was accepted. Thomas Charleton, a bushman, was carried in from Whangapoura, and came to Auckland by steamer this morning. The man's arm and shoulder are so much smashed that amputation is necessary, and the condition of the sufferer is so seiious that Dr Howell considered it necessary that the operation should be performed by two surgeons, and instead of waiting for an Auckland doctor to come, it was determined advisable to forward the man to town without delay. The chairman and secretary of the Harbor Board interviewed the Hon. the Attorney-General this morning, at his express invitation, in order to be informed of some propositions which the Government had to make with respect to the harbor reclamation and cognate woi'ks. Mr Whitaker briefly introduced the subject, and gave in detail the course which he and his colleagues had decided to pursue. The outline can be authoritatively stated. Ministers have determined to proceed with the reclamation henceforth until it is completed,as expeditiously and vigorously as possible. Arrangements will be made for the utilisation of St. Barnabas Point for the purpose, and rails will be at once laid and rolling stock put upon them, while tenders will be called for the filling in work, to be done in one contract, and within a limited period. Besides the material procured from the point, any other that is procurable will be made use of. It is only proposed to widen to 120 or 150 feet that portion of Queen-street which lies between Cus-tom-house and Quay-street, to bring the railway terminus to Queen-street, and make arrangements with respect to the sub-division of the reclaimed ground. That must prove of immense benefit to the Harbour Board. This latter proposition it is stated will be fraught with great advantages to the board and city in general. An exceedingly liberal and comprehensive railway station also is to be erected, fully commensurate with the importance of the city, and designed with due regard for pos&ible requirements of the future. The whole scheme is spoken of in terms ot high praise, and both the chairman and secretary of the Harbor Board concurred in the opinion that, if carried out 3 it will place, Auckland so far as the railway station accomodation is concerned, far a-hcad of any other port in the colony.
