ORGAN RECITAL AT CAMBRIDGE.

Thk members of S. Andrew's Church choir gave another grand organ recital in the church on Wednesday night last to a fair audience. This is the fourth recital, and as regards the quality of the music may be considered as the most successful of the series. Though the preceding recitals were in every respect all that couid have been expected — if not desired, the completeness of Wednesday night's programme, eclipses anything of the kind we have yet heard in Cambridge. | The harmony with which the various choruses were executed, together with the precision observed, are matters which set forth the careful and diligent nature of the rehearsals, and the zeal and musical proficiency of thf conductor, Mr J. A. Beale. It is a matter of congratulation to the people of Waikato, that such a difficult programme of high class sacred music can be rendered so creditably. The most noticable feature of the programme on Wednesday evening was the " Inflammatus " from Rossini's Stabat Mater, consisting of clarronet solos by Mr Mackintosh, harmonium accompaniment, and voices. As a musical selection this could not well be excelled, and it was executed with marked effect. The 60th hymn, A. and M. " Hark the Herald Angels Sing," with clarionet obligato, was also feelingly rendered, and was Heartily joined in by the congregation, the clarionet variations running through it producing considerable effect. Stratham's "Evening Service" consisting of the Magnificat, Nunc Dimittis, is a splendid composition. It was gone through with much care, the unison passages souuding extremely well. The solo of Miss Beale "0 Rest in the Lord," from the Elijah, and the solo of« Mrs Mackay, " Faith," are worthy of special reference, being the gems of the evening. Mr Moore's solo, as well as that of Mr J . Johnson, was faultlessly rendered, but Mr Bengali's solo from Rossini's Stabat Mater, betrayed a slight faltering, though otherwise it was a valuable contribution. The following is the programma : Voluntary, "But the Lord is mindful," from S. Paul, Clarionette Solo ; Hymn 179, A. and M., Choir ; prayers and responses, Incumbent (Mr Willis); "Magnificat" in unison, Statham's, Choir ; solo, "Pro Peceatis," Rossini's Stabat Mater, Mr Bendall ; solo, duet and chorus, "Credo," (from Adagio) Gounod's Mass, Choir (solo by Mr Johnson); clarionette solo, " Marlborough," Mr Mackintosh j solo, "Faith," G-lover, Mrs Mackay ; offertory, (sentences read only); Hymn 60, A. and. M., clarionette obligato by Mr Mackintosh, Choir ; solo, " Fac ut Portem," from Stabat Mater, Mr Moore ; clarionette solo and chorus, " Inflammatus," Stabat Mater, Mr Mackintosh ; solo, "0 Rest in the Lord," Elijah, Miss Beale; "Nunc Dimittis" (in unison), Statham, Choir ; solo and chorus, "Sanctus," Gounod's Mass, Choir; chorus, "Benedictus," Gounod's Mass, Choir; Hymn 24, (3rd tune), "Sun of uiy Soul," A. and M., Choir ; blessing ; dispersing, voluntary, "Lift up your heads." Mr J. A. Beale, church organist, presided at the harmonium, and played the accompaniments in his usual masterly style. During the evening an offertory waa taken up in aid of the choir funds.
