lii the House of Commons to-day, Mr Gladstone was questioned as to what action, if any, the Government proposed to take in regard to the persecution of the Jews in Russia. In reply, the Premier deplored the outrages which had been committed against the Jews, but stated that the question was an internal and not an international one. The Government would, however, he added, intercede with the Russian authorities when a fitting occasion arose. The motion of Mr Gladstone, for the adoption of the cloture, will be opposed by Sir Stafford Northcole, as leader of the Conservative party.
