TAWHIAO'S VISIT TO AUCKLAND. [BY TELEGRAPH.]
Our correspondent wires last night : — At a meeting of the reception committee the Mayor showed that the expenses would amount to £431, while the receipts only represented £320, leaving a deficit of £111. Some discussion ensued as to what should be done in the way of further entertaining the natives on their return from Kaipara. It was eventually resolved to make arrangements to board and lodge Tawhiao and party from Saturday till Tuesday motning. A committee was appointed to make special efforts to raise the necessary funds. It was stated at the meeting that the kingites intend to spend £200 in entertaining Europeans at Kopua.
With reference to the removal of the three natives from the carriages on the Kaipara train, the Stay is informed that the reason was not in order to reserve carriages, but that carriages had been reserved for the king's party, so as to be all together, and to enable the guard not only to be sure of those entitled to travel on the Government pass, but also to enable the guard to attend to road-side passengers without having to go through the train each time.
