THE ENGLISH CRICKETERS. [PER TELEGRAPH.]

Wellington, yesterday. — Our correspondent wires : — The English cricketing team arrived at eleven o'clock this morning. The match commenced at one o'clock. The weather was fine, but threatening. Wellington is playing with a strong team. Shaw won the toss, and sent his team to the wickets. The attendance was good. Ulyett and Barlow went in. At half-past two they had scored 50 without the loss of a wicket.

An Association wire, received last night, reports : — The match English eleven against twenty-two of Wellington commenced this afternoon. Fine weather. About 800 people were present. Shaw won the toss, and elected to go to the wickets. Marchant captained the Wellington team to-day. Very slow. Bates made the playing carefully. Shrewsbury played a grand innings for 70, not out. Scotton, who is also not out, stood at the wickets for a hour and-a-half for 11 runs. The following are the scores : — Ulyett, b Bayley, 43 ; Barlow, c Mace, b Bayley, 20 -, Selby, hit wicket, b Bayley, 5 ; Shrewsbury, not out, 70 ; Midwinter, c Firth, b Cross, 0 ; Bates, c Barlow, b Cross, 24 ; Scotton, not out, 11 ; extras, 3. Total for five wickets, 175, The game will be resumed tomorrow.
