PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.

, ♦ The monthly meeting was held at Cambridge on the 13th. Present: Crs. Chapmell (in the chair), J. C. Firth, N. T. Firth, J. Martin, E. C. Ellis. J. P. Campbell, H. E. Whitaker. Preliminary business disposed of, the following resolutions were unanimously adopted :—: — On the motion of Cr Firth, Cr. Whitaker's action in regard to the approaches to the punt at Te Aroha was endorsed. On the motion of Cr. Firth it was resolved tlia clerk write to the Collector of Customs at Thames, forwarding sketch showing the position of the Waihou and Te Aroha hotels, and informing him that the Counties Act is in force in the whole of the Piako County. On the motion of Cr. Firth it was resolved that no person be allowed to cut a drain discharging directly into the Waihou river without first obtaining the written consent of the council. The clerk was instructed to write the Attorney General drawing attention to the injury done to the navigation of the Waihou river by the opening of drains therein, and request him to define the position of the council in the matter, and also inform him that a road a chain wide, had been reserved on each side of the river. — On the motion of Cr. Whitaker, it was resolved that Messrs. Aicken and Boylan be requested to confer with the County Engineer with reference to roads and tracks at Te Aroha goldfields, and furnish reports upon all matters brought under their notice by Cr. Whitaker at the earliest possible date, cost not to exceed thirty guineas ; sledge tracks to have precedence. — The Clerk was mi stiucted to wire Capt. Turner in answer to his telegram informing him that the matter has been referred back to the Chief Surveyor for further information. — On the motion of Cr. Whitaker, it was resolved Messrs Hetherington and McKnights letter be referred to the engineer, (Mr Purchas) reminding him he is authorised to spend £10 for extras, and also informing him the council had authorised him to spend another £10 or £20 in all.— On the motion of Cr. Firth, it was resolved the Under - secretary of Public Works be informed that steamers from 20 to 26ft beam arenownavigatingthe Thames river for a long distance above, the site of the proposed bridge at TeAroha.
