THE CAMBRIDGE PUBLIC MEETING AND THE FIRE PROTECTION QUESTION.
A public meeting is called for to-night in the Cambridge Public Hall for the, purpose of taking the necessary steps to the adoption of the Town Districts Act now in force. As the matter is of import* ance to the ratepayers and residents of the district, all should make it their business to be present. .We have already dealt with this subject in, it* all-impor-tant bearing upon the subject of protection from fire. The following extracted from the Scottish Banking and Insurance record on the latter view of the subject is worthy of careful consideration. " arose almost >of necessity., ? The answer^ must indeed be 'always the' same— protection against fire is a Municipal or : State duty, and lias Iffont the; earliest hours been so regarded.
