THE ENGLISH CRICKETERS. [PER TELEGRAPH.]
Oamaeu, yesterday. — Our correspondent wires : — The English cricketers arrived by express train shortly after twelve, and after luncheon were driven to the cricket ground. The weather was glorious, and a large number of tradesmen are observing a half holiday. Shaw won the toss, and took the field. Snow and Rice appeared to face the bowling of Peate and Midwinter, the field having taken up the same positions as in Dunedin. The local team's wickets fell like nine pins, first ten men only scoring twelve runs.
A Press Association wire reports s — At the Oamaru match to-day (Monday) the weather was glorious and the attendance good. The Oamarn Twenty-two went in and were all disposed of for 60, the innings lasting a little over two hours. Hewitt made 20. Several catches were missed. When the stumps were drawn the Englishmen had lost two wickets (Ulyett and Selby) for 32; Bates, not out, 17 ; Barlow, not out, 9.
