ANNUAL SCHOOL FETE AT ALEXANDRA.

The childrens annual school picnic took place on Monday la3t at the acacia grove on Mr J. Westney's property at Punin, which was kindly granted for the purpose. The day was all that could be desired for the little ones' enjoyment, as well as that of a goodly number of adults who accompanied them. The Alexandra Brass Band, under the leadership of Bandmaster Muller, placed their services at the committee's disposal, and so greatly added to the enjoyment by their sweet strains, and the dancing, which was heartily indulged in. Games of all kinds were improvised — foot-racing, jumping, &c, &c, under the management of the popular schoolmaster, Mr J. K. Carter. Refreshments were plentifully and liberally distributed by the ladies, who so kindly furnished the trays, and the committee of ladies. Amongst those who were most prominent in making the day so enjoyable by their indefatigable exertions may be mentioned Vfesdames Sage, Wilson, Hallet, turmer, Miles, Kelly, Capel, Aubin, Hinton, and others. Mr Hinton, as handicapper, gave general satisfaction to bhe juvenile athletes. Shortly after six o'clock a return was made for the township, the band playing the whole party in. On arrival their were most heartily cheered. A dance in the evening in the Public Hall finished our annual festivities. I had almost forgotten that King Tdwhiao was preseut, aud most heartily enjoyed the sports, takiug especial interest in the little children's races. — [Own Correspondent.]
