INTERPROVINCIAL NEWS. [BY TELEGRAPH.]
AUCKLAND, Last Night. Thk house of Captain Bradley at Oneluinga was burned down. It was insured for £200 in the South British, but cost £400. Mrs Bradley and the children barely escaped. At the Board of Education meeting to-day the engineer was directed to prepare plans and specifications for a teacher's residence at Paterangi. Sibbin's store was completely gutted by fire this morning. His stock was insured for £1000 in the National and £300 in the Northern ; and the building for £200 in the National and £200 in the Victoria.
WELLINGTON, Last Night. The ship Margaret Galbraith, Captain Fergusson, arrived from London this afternoon, after an uneventful passage of 115 days. The steamer Wakatu, which arrived from Wanganui this morning, struck Old Tom's Ruck near Terawhiti at 7 a.m. The second mate was in charge. The vessel is making water fast ; it is supposed that one of her plates is split. The pumps are hard at work, and after discharging she will go on the slip. At the Supreme Court to-day, Joseph Patrick McDuff was acquitted on a charge of fraudulent bankruptcy. The Court has adjourned rntil Monday, when an action for slander, claiming £1000 damages, brought by the Mayor against Mr James Stewart, will be heard. Only one criminal case remains on the sheet, and that will be taken on Thursday next.
DUNEDIN, Last Night. A seven-roomed boarding-house in Cumberland-street was destroyed early this morning. Mrs Crawford, the occupier, was insured in the South British for £100. The house belonged to the hon. Mr Mantell, and was insured for £100 in the Northern.
