TE AROHA. [F ROM AN OCCAS IONAL CORRESPONDENT.]

'We -have been rather dull of late, owing to the superior attractions offered to 9 sporting men and others at the different j centres of population. Our people are however turning up again, and work, real work, will soon be the order of the day. — Roads and tracks are being formed and very soon it will be a pleasant easy walk to the new find, and adjoining I mines. — Our new puut over the river has now been in working order for some days, and answers the purposes splendidly, the approaches have been made by th.c council, and W. X Carter's mail coach piloted by W. Faulkner now drives on to, and off the punt pulling up in great style in the township. A few persona who live in the vicinity of the old punt do not relish the change, and an attempt is being made to get up a petition to the Council to remove the punt higher up the river, this emanates from a few interested persons, who no doubt consider that the alteration will not be conducive to their interests, but I think the Council deserve credit for doing their besst foy the general welfare, and convenience of the district, without reference to individuals. If the petition referred to is ever presented it will be interesting to look over the callings set opposite some of the names.
