NEW YEAR'S SPORTS.
The advent of the new year will be celebrated in various parts of the district with the usual sports &c. At Taupiri the annual shorts come off to-day, the programme including a long list of events, which should ensure good competition jand a large attendance. On Monday a grand regatta will be held at Ngaruawahia, for which great pieparations are benig made. The boat racing will be supplemented by foot spoits, and the Hamilton Band will be in attendance. The steamer Delta will make a special trip for the convenience of those wishing to attend the regatta, leaving Cambridge at 8.40, and Hamilton at 10.40 a.m., returning at 5 p.m. We expect to see a large attendance at Hamilton West on the same day (Monday). Mr Milne has arranged a programme of sports to come off in Mr Martin's paddock, corner _of Anglesea-street, to include trotting matches, hurdle (horse) races and foot sports. Facilities have also been aflouled by the railway authorities for those wishing to witness the Auckland Races on Monday, so that there need be no lack of amusement at the new year.
