FATAL STABBING AFFRAY AT OXFORD.

Shortly after the Maori Race at the Oxford Meeting, on Boxing Day, a native named Hoani te Kerei was stabbed to the heart. It is rumored some dispute over a bet was the cause of the unfortunate quarrel which led to the fatal result. Two natives, Mikaue and Peina te Kerei (a brother of the deceased), both belonging to the Ngatihuru tribe, and who were on the ground at the time, were arrested by Constable Fitzpatrick. The body lies at Mr Montague's hotel awaiting an inquest, which was to be held yesterday, under Mr Searancke, the coroner, who left Hamilton on Tuesday afternoon for the purpose of conducting an official inquiry.
