Our corresponded wires the ( following items last night : — ' A boy named Butterworth fell over the cliff at Judge's Bay while gathering Christmas flowers this afternoon. He had both wrists broken. At the Police Court to-day, William Western, bookmaker, was fined £5 and costs for an assault on. Mr Rathbone, proprietor of the Observer. A gumdigger named Joseph Smith has been found hanging in his whare near Kaukapakapa. He is supposed to hare been dead some days. Dodd's bush shanty at Whangapoua, inhabited by 20 men, was destroyed by fire this morning at 8 o'clock. 1 - The men had left the shanty at 5.30 a.m. and , gone to Ooromandel to meet the steamer for Auckland. All the men's swags and valuables, together with tools and goods belonging to the company, valued at £200, were destroyed. ' * The Chamber of Commerce ha 3 decided to press upon Government the necessity of bringing down a new bankruptcy act for this colony next session.
