CRICKET. Alexandra C.C. v. Hamilton C.C.

A match between the above clubs was played on Sydney Square, Hamilton, on baturday, and resulted in an easy victory for Hamilton. The weather, especially towards the afternoon, was very unfavorable,' but tiie match nevertheless was played with spirit throughout Hamilton went first to the wickets, Gleeson and Browning facing the bowling of Buttle and Benge. Browning, after putting 5 together, succumbed to Benge, who bowled well, and J. B. Smith, who followed, shared a like fate after making 4. Wood also fell to the same bowler for 9, and then Tonka and Gleeson got together and runs began to come freely. Tonks had scored 25 and was evidently getting his eye in when he waa stupidly run out. Gleeson made 45, »nd the only other score deserving of notice was Forrest's 28. The extras, owing to the bad fielding ot the Alexandra men, amounted to no less than 36. The total for the innings was 170. Alexandra then went in, but only put together 49, to which Grierson (captain) contributed 20 and Benge 13. They then followed their innings, but only succeeded in adding 34 to the total. Hamilton thus won by one innings and 87 runs. The bowling and fielding of the Hamilton men was fairly good, the long-stopping of N. Hunt being particularly admired, The following are the scores :—: —
