Shareholders are guaranteed 7 per cent. on their investment immediately on the line being opened, made up as follows :—: — The land within a district of nearly 400,000 acres will be rated at 5 per cent., and a Government guarantee of 2 per ceut. on the cost is provided for. This rate of interest is guaranteed for 15 }'ears. See District Railways Act 1577, clauses 75 to 85, and Amendment Act 1878, clause 9. In addition, the Directors expect to make at least 1 per cent, more to the Shareholders by borrowing' one half the cost of the line at home at 5 per cent.
