ALARMING OUTBREAK OF DIPTHERIA AT CAMBRIDGE.
A telegram to hand yesterday from our Cambridge correspondent conveys the stdttlmg announcement that diptheria had broken out, and that three children had died since the previous day (Sunday). Our correspondent adds that the public school has very properly been closed.
From another source we learn that several cases of malignant diptheria had occurred amongst children attending the public school, Cambridge, in consequence of which the school was closed yesterday, and, we presume, will remain closed until further notice. Our informant, whose message was received a few hours prior to the despatch of the telegram alluded to above, explains that, in all, four cases of the disease had broken out between Friday and Saturday, and that one of the victims had succumbed, while the other three remained in a most dangerous state. Under these circumstances, it is very desirable parents and guardians of children should be on the alert, so that any symptom of affection of the throat may be noticed and measures adopted to prevent the spread and intensity of this most dangerous disease. We are likewise assured by our correspondent that every precaution is being taken as regards isolation and antiseptic treatment in the case of those attacked.
