WAI PA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The annual meeting of this council was held at the chambers, Ohaupo, on Wednesday, 23rd inst., at noon. Messrs Buttle, Roche, Steele, Scott, Hadfield, Lake, and Capt. Lindsay being present. The chairman having read the clauses of the Counties Act appointing the meeting, it was proposed by Mr Roche, and seconded by Mr Steele, and carried, " That Mr Buttle be chairman of the council." Mr Steele moved, "That the first ordinary meeting of council be now held, the future meeting of the council be held on the second Tuesday of each alternate month at 10 o'clock, to commence with January next." — Carried. A letter was received from the Crown Lands office, concerning Lot. 330, Ngaroto. — Mr Hadfield moved, Mr Roche seconded, "That the Government be urged to permanently reserve Lot. 330, with a view to having the control of the reserve vested in the council for immediate use."— Carried. The returning officer for Raflgiaohia riding having leported that no one had been nominated, the clerk was directed to instruct him to proceed with a fresh election. Notice was received from the Government that the approaches to the Whata whata bridge required attention. — Mr i-ladfield moved "That the works of repairing the approaches be proceeded witli at once." Carried.— Mr Steele moved "That Messrs JKoche, Hadfield and Lindsay be authorised to invite tenders for the necessary work." Carried. — The clerk was directed to point out to the under-secretary for Public Works that that the work had been handed over before it was in a proper condition, and to ask for a refund of this outlay. Letters were received from Mr Salmon asking compensation for land taken for a road. — The council having nothing to do with the matter, the clerk was directed to return the letters and state as much. Plans of roads closed in the Hamilton district were laid before the council, and the clerk was directed to advertise them in accordance with the Public Works Act. A letter from the clerk of the Waikato County Council was submitted to the council. The letter being written in an offensive manner, the clerk was ordered to bring it under the notice of the chairman of the Waikato Council. Mr Roche moved, and Mr Hadfield seconded ' ' That the clerk be ro-appointed upon the same terras as formerly" carried. Mr Lake was requested to arrange in conjunction with the clerk, tho standing committee for tho ensuing year, and submit to the next meeting. The state of the Ngaruawahia ferry being reported by Captain Lindsay, Mr Lake moved " That a committee of three be appointed to place the Ngaruawahia ferry in working order, and to report at the next meeting, Cra. Lindsay, Lake, and Koche to form the committee." — Carried. Accounts were paid to the amount of Ll5 0s Od, and the council adjourned till next meeting day.
