CAMBRIDGE CAVALRY.
The Cambridge troop met for drill on Wednesday last, the muster being the largest since the commencement of the term. There was carbine and sword drill in the morning, and in the evening the members of the troop retired ■with their instructor, Sergt. -Major Carley to the butts for firing practice. The programme consisted of rapidity firing, riding 1 a quarter of a milfe over two fixed jumps, coupling their horses, and firing as many rounds as possible, the lot to be done within three minutes. The following is the firing :— Sergt. -Major Fisher and Sergt. Allwill, 22 hits, 3 misses ; Corporal Ferguson and Trooper Cricket, 21 hits 3 misses ; Rose and Forrest, 16 hits 4 misses ; Turnbull and Franklin, 14 hits 7 misses ; Selby and Wright, 17 hits 6 misses ; McFarlane and J. Brown, 16 hits 6 misses ; Tyson and E. Brown, 13 hits 11 misses ; Looker and MoKinnon, 8 hits and 6 misses ; Moore and Fitzgerald, 10 hits 10 misses ; Corporals Forrest and Hicks, 11 hits 10 misses; Thomas and Brown, 12 hits 7 misses ; Lieut. Fisher and Instructor Carley, 17 hits 2 misses. With the exception of one or two couples this shooting far exceeded all expectation and on the whole is considered very satisfactory.
