MAJOR JACKSON AT NGARUAWAHIA.
Last night this candidate addressed a meeting of the . electors in the schoolhouse, Ngaruawahia. Captain Lindsay presided. Upwards of 60 persons were present. The candidate simply repeated the speech delivered by him at Te Awamutu, a full report of which appeared in our telegraphic columns last issue. In reply to questions put, he (Major Jackson) stated that he had raised a volunteer corps in the Waikato, for which he was to have obtained 600 acres of land, but they had not yet been obtained. He was in favour of property securing an extra representation in the foroa of additional votes in respect to such property. On the motion of Mr Lamb, seconded by Mr Ktzpatrick, a vote of thanks was proposed to the candidate. Mr P. Kay moved, as an amendment, a vote of thanks and confidence ; seconded by Mr E. Hall. On being put to the meeting, seven hands were held up for the confidence motion, the remainder of those present voting in favour of the motion for thanks. The confidence motion was accordingly negatived by an overwhelming majority. The proceedings throughout were characterised by a total want of confidence
