The first of what is intended shall be ii aeries of annu.il sales of stud stock the property of the Auckland Agricultural Co., (Lite Miclean and Co ) took place at Peuro^c farm, near Auckland on Thursday, and was la r gely attended by breeders fiom the Auckland an] Waikato districts as well as fiorn other patts of the colony Mr Alfivd Buckland was the auctioneer. Over foity lots weio offered, and the list included some of the finest stock, both in horses and cattle m tho Australasian colonies. We regiet wo have not iodib to publish the list m full, but we give below details of those anim?ls which Waikato breeders have been lucky enough to secure • — Shorthorns.— Duke of Albany : Roan, calved Ist February, 1880. Got by Duke of York (223) N.Z.H.8., dam Countess of Tuuuton by Duke of Somerset (26,012) C.HB.,2nd of Windsors First by Rkl Windsor (24,926) C H.B . 3id d Crocus by Henry Fir.t (26,370) C H.B , 4th d Cowslip by Siladin (15.231) C.H 8., etc. Started at 200g5., and purchased at 205^8. by Messrs Morrin and Studhohne, Piako. — Somerset 3rd : Roan, calved 9th July, 1879. Got by Duke of York (229) NZ. H 8., dam (Baroness of Taunton) by 25th Biron Wetherby (27981) C.H.8., 2ud d (Countess of Taunton) by DuKe of Somerset (20,012) C.H 8., 3rd d (Wind-oi's Fir*t) by Red Windsor (24,926) C.H 8., 4th d (Crocus) by Henry First (26,3 7 0) CH.B., sth d (,owshp) by Saladin (15,231) CH.B., etc. Parted at 20gs nold to Mr William Hunter for 61g<. — Petrarch : Roan, calved 24th October, 1880. Got by Oxford Royal (40,431) C. H.8., dam Queen May by Grand Duke of Auckland (223 N.Z.H.8., alvrs 9th Colonel Treguuter (62) N.Z.H.8., 2nd d Anemone by Earl of Derby (28,502) CH.B, 3rd d Constant by Earl of Fife (23,585) C.U.8., 4th d Bn.le by Conqueror (21,466) C.H.8., sth d Anemone Third by Upstart (9760 CH.B. Started at 30gs., and sold at 100^s to Mr Win. Taylor (Te Awnnutu). HiiREFORDS. — Bismarck : Red with white face, calved August 30, 1876, imported (3929j, clam Emblem by Young Cai lisle (62), q c\ tiem by Captain, imported (1409). Bismarck won first prize at tlie show, but the highest bid was 50gs., at which he passed, but he was subsequently bought by Mr R. H. D. Fergnsson (Gorton) for 80gs. — No. 7 : Red, with white face, calved November 27th, 1879. Got by Bismarck, dam Day Spring 2nd by Robin Hood (imported), q d Daysprmg by Duke of Edinburgh (3077), etc. started at2ogs. ; boueht by Mr A. B. Suttor (Eureka), at 40gs.— No. 11.: Red, with 'white tace, calved 12th September, 1880. Got by Prince Arthur (imported), dam 78 by Lord Pannuire, q d 78 by Duke of Edinburgh (<3077). Started at 25 guineas and bought at 50 guineas by Mr H. Reynolds (for the Waikato Land Association), who also purchased the following at 29, 40 aud 40 guineas respectively : -No 13.: Red, with white face, calved 9th October, 1880. Got by Horace 3rd (5386), dam SJCurley 2nd by Duke of Edinburgh, q d Curley (imported), etc. — L \o 9. : Red, wirh white iace, calved October 27, 1880. Got by Horace 3rd (5380), dam Lady Timaru, by Prmce Leopold 2nd (3351) q d Princess • •elena by Prince Leopold Ist (2679) gg d Eugenie by Windsor (1456). Ceres by Albert Edward (859) etc.— No 6. : Minstrel : Red, with white face, calved 12th November, 18S0. Got by Horace 3rd (5386), dam Minstrel Ist (imported) by Sir James (161), gd Minstrel, by Young Carlisle (62), gg d Royalty by the Captain of Thurston (1422) etc. Clydesdale. — Baron Dinsdale : Bay, foaled 13th September Isth September, 1831. Got by Star and Garter. Dam Nell, by Piince of Renfrew, who gained second pi ize afi the Highland Society's Show, at Aberdeen ; second at Glasgow, when three years old. He was by Loft, who gained the Glasgow premium one season. Nell's dam was a firat-claea bred mare, being oat of old Champion. Star und Garter is by Royal Prince (932 C.S.B ), wh o gained first prize at Glasgow as a three-year-old, tecond at the Highland Society's Nhow, also, £100 premium from the Linlitbgow N ocietv. Royal Prince (732 CS B.), is by Prince of Wales (573 C.5.8. ), the property of L. Drew, Esq., Merryton. Star and Garter's dam I was by Black Prince (52 C S B.), who took the firct premium at the Highland Society's show at Perth, and first prize at the Linlithgow Society's Show. Started at 50g and bought by Messrs Morrin and Studholme (Piako) at 80gs Several of the cattle were passed, but all tho^e sold were retained in the Auckland district. For the horse stock there was however competition from other parts of the Colony The yearling Clydesdale Grand Duke — Duches9, was bought by the Auckland St'id Company at lOOgs". Dainley by Darnley— The Countess, also, fell to the same buyers at 380g8. The well-known, horse St«r and Garter was bought by Mr Caverhill, of Taranaki, after an exiting contest for 380gs, On the whole the sale, being tho first of its kind, was succe^sfnl, and that it will increase iv favor there cannot be the slightest doubt.
