WAIKATO EXHIBITS AT THE AGRICULTURAL SHOW. [BY TELEGRAPH. — SPECIAL REPORTER.]
The annual 3how held under the auspices of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Society, took place at the show grounds, Green Lane, yesterday and to day. The weather was exceptionally favoiable, and the attendance to-day (Wednesday) was very large. A considerable number of Waikato residents were on the ground, and the number of exhibits fiom Waikato wore much greater than m any previous year. The Agricultural Company (late Messrs Maclean and Co.), and Mr Fantham were the principal exhibitors of cattle, and Mr R. H. D. Fergusson and Mr Seddon of sheep. The company also exhibited many of their splendid draughts from Fsncourt. As regards cattle and horses the show was most successful, and the implements, produce, and poultry were all well represented. The sheep, dogs, and swine were few, though of good quality. In thoroughbred stock the Stud Company and the progeny of Musket carried oil:' the lion's share of the piizes. Mu&ket again took first honor. In draught horses, the competition was keen, but the Stud Company and Agricultural Company's Lord Elgin got first, thoueli there was not wanting those who gave the palm to the grand stallion Star and Garter, which got third prize. The Agricultural Company sot second prize for three-year-old entires with Darnley. For yearling entires, the same company secured first, second, and third pi izes with Grand Duke, Baron Dinsdale, and BenLomond, all grand promising colts. Same exhibitors got first prize for be->t mare with Duohe-s of Inverness. In carriage h-irseolasN, Mr F. A. Whitaker took lhst pnzo for best horse under 15 hands 2 inch o w ith Ai thur by Merrily, and N T Hunt aimed away fir-t pnze for pony entires under 1 i hands, with the beautiful cie/iiny Exmoor, lately pnr- < h 'sal in Taranaki, and which Mr Hint intend-, shall stand m Wmkafco, where it will 1)3 \eiy u-eful. In short horns, Mori m's bull, Cambridge Duke tenth, was nist, and Mac Loan's 2nd Duke of Cambridge was second, ftir C. Day (Wh.itdwhata) took first pri/ie for 2-yoa-vvold bull with BulWfiy, (by Lord Darlington, Queen of the Buttei flies) and Waikato Land Association with Duke of Hazeloofce 66th was 2nd. Fanthams Cambridge Rose got 2nd pri/Je, and for yearling heifers same. I he competition was numerous for prizes in this class In Herefor I's, as may he supposed, Maclean's ( Vsricultural ompany) .swept the boaid, their exhibits beuig remarkably fine, and much admired. Seveial Devons, Alderneys, and Ayrshires were shown In sheep, Mr li. H. D. Fergus-son was p irticularly successful ; all his exhibits taking prizes, comprising Ist, 2nd, and third for his rams, and Ist and 2nd for the bo-tpen ot fat sheep : Mr Richard Reynold tikmg 3rd pu/o in the latter. Mr 3. T. Seddon showed two pens of en's hoggets of beautiful symmetry, atul fineness, and weight of fleece, but they were not so well biought out as Mr James Wallace's, who got Ist and 3ul prizes ; Mr Seddon 2nd. The other prize taker.3 were Mr Mornn, and Messrs A. J. Anderson (Maugare and Waipa), Mrßuckland, ami Mr W. J. Hun ber taking Ist prize for cattle dog-?. Altogether, Waikato cut a creditable figure at the show. JNo doubt there were many difficulties in the way of getting exhibits forwarded to Auckland. If the^e had not been so urreat there would have been a much larger number of competitor than there was, There was nothing on the ground to apptoach in quality the fat sheep of Messrs Fergusson and Reynolds, the other competitors being out of the contest altogether. The show in implements w.is varied and good, especially E Porter & Co 's exhibits The collection of seeds, produce, and extras, were also much above the average. The siiow was pronounced, by comuetent judges, to be a decided advance on that of last year.
