The charge -against Oarrard, the unemployed agitator, for putting bogus names on the City Webt 1011, was heard to-day, The evidence of the man whose name was put on showed he did not give Garrard authonty, nor did he live in the distnet. The decision was leserved.
The Parihaka Meeting. New Plymouth, Li"t Night. The Parihaka meeting is proceeding. Two hundred of the returned prisoners are there, and the meeting is large. Te Wlnti spoke about an hour, and was followed by Tohu. The speeches were in much tiie sams strain as at the last meeting. They were to resist, no matter if thousands came to Pungarchu. The walls would fall down, and the European power be bioUen up.

Thames, Last Night. News from Te Aroha confirms the reports as to the excellence of the quartz reefs discovered.
Dunedin, I/isfc Night. Two cottages in South Dunedin were burned down. The insurance is £75 in the North British, and £100 in the Northern. Bush fires have occurred on the Peninsula which are affirmed by the oldest settlers as the severest known there. I ar^e trees ixi the bush, miles of fencing, and a number of buildings have been totally destroyed. A thousand pounds worth of property was lost in the cheese factory, which was among the buildings burned. It was insured in the Norwich Union for £150.
