A RACING CLUB FOR NGARUAWAHIA.

A meeting of the residents was held on Thursday night at the Delta Hotel, Captain J. Lindsay in the chair. The object of the meeting was to take into consideration the desirability of forming a racing club. The following resolutions were carried unanimously :—(1): — (1) "That a racing club be formed, to be called the ' Waipa Kacing Club.'" (2) " That the following gentlemen be the committee for the same, with power to add to their number, viz., Captain Lindsay, Messrs G. F. Dickeson, Rathbone, E. Fitzpatiick, B. H. Keesing, W. M. Lovell, Macredie, Hindie, Frazer, and Corboy." (3) " That it is the unanimous desire of the residents of Waipa that the Domain Board hand over the race course reserve to the club for racing purposes." The Club starts with very good prospects, and as it is suggested that the subscription to the Club shall be one guinea, they look forward to a large aud influential number of members. It is firmly believed that the time is not far off when the races held by the Waipa Racing Club will be second to none in the Waikato. The course is situated on the bank of the Waikato river, and also adjoins the railway line — (Correspondent).

A meeting of the ratepayers of the Raglan town district will be held at the County Council chambers on November sth, to elect a trustee in the place of Mr Powell, resigned. The new pure cash system now being initiated by G. and C. will certainly prove a benefit to the public. It has been a great success' in Sydney and Melbourne and when strictly carried out the customer who buys at an establishment where the goods are marked low to ensure a rapid sale must be a great gainer. G. and C. sell their drapery millinery, and clothing at such prices for cash as gives the buyer the advantages of a shareholder ma co~operativesociety, withoutthe risk of being called upon to bearaportion of the loss should the year's business prove unsatisfactory. Gailick and Cranwell will aim to retain the confidence which the public have hitherto shown them, and are determined to give the pure cash system a fair trial ; whether they gain or lose the first year. Country buyers on remitting cash with order will be supplied with goods at co-operative prices ; just the same as though they made a personal selection. Furnishing goods, such as carpets, floor cloths, bedsteads, bed '-Snip and geaeirJ house furniture, the largest portion of which is turned out at our own factory, will be marked 'at the iowest remunerative prices, and a. discount of ! five per cent, will bo allowed to thbse t who pay at the time of purchase-. G. &C. having realised the entire value of thftir stock during their late cash sale, the present stock is new and cheaply bought. An inspection is invited. — Garlics and CranwblL, City HalfFurpjshing A'r^ado Queenstreet, Auckland • "- l ' - ' "'
