Auckland, Last Night. The Auckland Steamship Company has resolved to wind-up voluntarily. At the Supreme Court, the case, MeCormick v. Merrick, fell through.
Thames, Last Night. Mining is showing great improvement. It is expected that one hundred men will go from the Thames to Panhaka as a company.
The West Coast Difficulty. New Plymouth, Last Night. It is reported here that preparations are evidently being made at the camp for a move of some kind ; also that Mr Rolleston has gone to Wellington to allow Major Atkinson to come here.
Christohuroh, Last Night. No less than 258 entries have been received for the amateur athletic sports on Saturday and Monday next. The weather is extremely hot.
Dunedin, Last Night. Mr Massey -has resigned the town clerkship, pendfng an investigation.
[press association.] § Wellington, Last Night. At the Supreme Court, John Simpson, on a charge of wilfully and unlawfully fastening clown the safety valve of a boiler, was acquitted. Joseph Skerritt was sentenced to three years hard labour for manslaughter. The Premier has returned from the South to-day. No fresh native news has been received by the Government. Further prosecutions for grog adulteration will shortly take place.
Hawera, Last Night. Charles Gibbons, a bushman, has been committed for trial charged with disposing of ammunition.
