CAMBRIDGE TOWN BOARD.
A meeting of the above body was held at the Boaid office, Victoria-street, Cambridge, on Thursday night last. There were present : Messrs T. Wells, (chairman), Nixon, Kn-kwood, Johnson, and Hewitt. The minutes of the previous n*eting were read and confirmed. Correspondence. A letter was received from Mr S. Percy Smith of the survey office, Auckland, complaining of the board allowing 1 contractors to destroy the survey marks. The letter also intimated that notice would be given requesting all to refrain from destroying these marks, and that any person who should do so in future would lie condemned in the heaviest penalty it would be possible to inflict. The Chairman lemarked that this malicious proceeding 1 h.id not be^n d^ne with the sanction of the board as Mr Smith had been informed, and that when the matter whs iiist discovered by the engineer, orders werp immediately given to have .ill biich survey mark* replaced It was ajneed that in future all suitey murks displaced by contractors should be replaced by the board at their (the contractors') (O3t. Tho secretary wi\s instructed to see that the property of Mr Brooks was left as the contractors found it, before they got the money on their account. Petition. A petition was read from a number of ratepayers find property holders in Queenstreet west, Alpha - htreet, and Graystreet, asking the board to consider the state of these thoroughfares whioh were represented to be in an unusually bad and unsafe condition for traffic, and hoping <>that steps would be taken to effect a remedy as soon as possible. It was resolved on the motion of the chairman that the petition be received until the engineer should report upon the work. In replying 1 to questions put the chairman informed the board that he had received a communication from their Engineer, Mr Gwynncth who was busily engaged a long distance from Cambridge, in reply to one of his own, saying he would bo in town with as little delay as possible. The Board resolved that the Hanger, Mr Collins, should have the poAver of dealing with all cases referring to the grazing of cattle on the run, impounding all those whose owners had not paid. It was agreed that the chairman be empowered to pay Mr Wright the contract price for the repairs of the Board room when finished. The Chairman remarked that the Board's overdraft at the Bank, together with all unpaid liabilities, and after paying all accounts that night, was £250. It was resolved that Mr J. P. Thompson be allowed the use of the Town Board Office during the day for the present term of office of the Board for the sum of £5 annually. Accounts. The board entered upon a lengthy investigation of the various itemß in Messrs Fergnsßon and Crickett's account which were passed with a few exceptions. JDwan Bros. d£l 75. ; W. A. Graham £3 4s ; T. Wells £4 14a sd; B. Ewen £1. Mr Wells expressed a desire . that in future any material which the board required and could get at any other place than at his store they should do so. This was all the business.
