RAGLAN PETTY SESSIONS.
Friday, 23rd September. — (Before Wm. Duncan, Esq., J.P., and William Powell, Esq., J.P.) John Douglas, jnnr., v. James Pearce, claim £2 14s. Mr Gresham (for the defendant) took objection to the particulars of demand, which in six items out of eight failed to specify the date of month. As to the residue of the claim the defendant pleaded a set-off. In support of plaintiff's claim, John Verner and the plaintiff's father were called as witnesses. Judgment for defendaut, with costs amounting to £3 12s 6d. , The other causes were settled before the Court sat.
A FLOATiNa Newspaper Office. — The latest " new departure" in newspaper enterprise is reported from New Orleans. The Democrat of that city has fitted up a branch office on a barge, which having been towed up the Mississippi River to Memphis, is now floating down to new Orleans again, stopping at all points of interest on the way to gather information concerning the country along the river and for some distance back into the interior. The barge is sixty feet long, with twelve feet width of beam. Its interior accomodation comprises business^ editorial and job office?, composing room, kitchen, and stable for the horses used in making land' trips back 1 from the river. It is practically, a fi^ly-equipped newspaper establishment afloat.
