The Prorogation. Wellington, Last Night. Parliament will be prorogued to-morrow by commission until towards the end of November, probably the 24th of that month.
Accident. A sari accident occurred on the tram to-day to a lad named Powell, about nine years of age, a son of Win, Powell, tailor. He slipped while attempting to aliglit, and fell under the wheels. He was immediately removed to the hospital, where it was found necessary to amputate the left arm and a finger on the right hand. The lad had the right leg broken above the ankle, besides other serious injuries to his head and lies in a critical condition.
The Natives on the Coast. No fresh news has been received by the Government to-day from the West Coast.
General Garfield's Death. Dttnedix, Last Night. The Mayor has forwarded a telegram to the American Consul at Auckland expressing the sympathy of the Dunedin people at President Garfield's death.
Election News. Mr James Adam will stand for Bruce and Mr W. J. M. Larnach will contest Dunedin Soiitb.
