NGARUAWAHIA.
„ . Mr T. Ct. Sandes ha 3 been busy for the last week both at Road Board work and surveying private lots. Councillor Corboy 's attempt to obtain a representative for this end of the riding has, as might be expected, failed. The representative of the Newcastle ruling would, I think, if he consulted the dignity of both himself and his constituents, remain like most of the councillors on the 13th at home. It must have been liearti ending to Cr. Corboy after Ins eveitions in favor of the Central Committee pet on the occasion of the last election for Waipa, that the collapse of his "motion" •».!<? bi ought about by a brother (Jrcyite. The indefatigable representative of Tulukai.unea arrived m time to be too Lite to suppoit Brother Corboy's motion. The Registrar still complains that he cannot obtain a sufficient supply of registiation forma. Tho suffering public should lemcinber that there is no fee attached. Pure philantlnopy urges him on. Mr Corboy, a respectable settler residing on a farm of 330 acres in the "Whuta■vvhata district, h.is been inteivicwing the rewlctiN of tun plaso rv tho rcfent attempt of a local jonni'il to boycott him. It appc.ns that a block of land, some 230 acres, adjoining bis farm, was put up by Sir Geotge Giey's Government undci the Homestead Act for the benefit of the poor man ; but some how or other the laudable attempt to give any one a small farm tell to the •riounrl. But by this and by that it was intended for Pat, and the enemies to the human race, and land leaguers generally, were j, r oin»; to turn it mto — not a am ill farm, but a nice little estate, •well-wooded and watered, &c. So the land leaguers of the district have decided that Mr Corboy should bo boycotted. Disinterested people say that if Mr Corboy is pntitled to compensation for disturbance, land compensation should bo giveu where he was disturbed or land scrip ; that the block sought by Mr Corboy should be put up to public competition, and thereby end all growling. The neighbouring scttler-i expect that this will be done, thus giving to all a fair field and no favour — (Own Correspondent, vSeptember lGth.)
