TE AWAMUTU NEWS. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
Business Wanted. Ik the, dearth of any peculiarly stirring incidents inthe immediate neighborhood of this town, it is permissible, tp indulge in speculations 'as to 'the! probability of some of the ideas for the future becoming realities instead of' remaining without form 'and void. Ideas are undoubtedly of service in the reshaping of the old dry bones of this world Into useful and profitable forms, and without them it is tolerably ,- certain we should bave no practical working ; but ideas are of .very little use until they are reduced to practice. Amongst those liberally scattered for our digestion year after year, that of beet-root growing awakens the greatest interest in these parts, because of the particularly suitable nature of the soil for the growth of the root, and from the advantage to the neighborhood that would be caused by the promotion of a healthy, profitable industry, however small the profits might be, and more especially just now when it is becoming necessary to crop more land, and the growth of wheat is rather overdone in' the South Talnnd, and the farmers here would have to bear the tittrde}! of excesiive competition and extra expenses in the growth of wheat for a year or no that would reduce their profits on that crop below those of their competitors and give others an advantage they would not have by and bye after a start had beer, made upon a more paying crop for a time. Supposing that a sugar refinery were started at Hamilton, branch establishments for the collection of saccharine matter in Te Awamutu, Kihikihi, i Alexandra, Ohaupo, Tamabere, Hautapu, and other paits of the district would be amply hupplied by the growers. Everybody is anxious to see the idea reduced to shape and formally introduced.
