Thursdvy.— 'Before H. W. Northcroft, Esq , R M., and His Worship the Mayor.) Alleged Rape. Liwrence H-iyes was charged on rem.ind, witli having on tho Oth insfc , committed ;i rape upon one Margaret Gordon, a married woman, leading m Hamilton East. Mr O'Neill appeared for the prosecution, and applied to be allowed to call another witness Dr. Boale. Mr Hay for the defence, objected, as the case had been closed. The Bench intimated that if they considered it necessary, they would call Dr. Beale. Mr Hay then applied for a fuifcher remand. He stated thatalthough every effort had been made tq obtain the evidence which was sought by the defence, they had been unsuccessful. Mr O'JSeill objected to a further remand, as it would prejudice his client, who was not in a position to bear the expense. - •, The Bench refused the application, but consented to., an adjournment for ten minutes, to enableyMv Hay to consider whafe.cQiirse lie should, adopt.
