THE STRANDING OF THE S.S. TUI. [BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH, UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
Wellington. Tuesday. A telegram received from the captain of the Tni this morning states that the vessel was floated off by the last tide last night. The engine-room and mnin hold are filled with water, and he was compelled to beach her again. Her bottom is severely damaged, but efforts were being made to stop the leak, so as to' get her into smooth water. Local appliances will now have to be used. She is insured in the National office for £3000 ; reinsured to the extent of £2500 as follows :— Colonial, £500 j New Zealand, £500 ; Victoria, £500 ; South British, £500 ; Unton, £250; Batavia, £250. Wellington, Last Night. A telegram from Waitara states that the steamer Tui is in a better position fdr launching, and it is expected to float her to-night. Great difficulty was experienced in reducing the leak.
The new pure cash system now being initiated by G. and C. will certainly prove a benefit to the public. It has been a great success in Sydney and Melbourne and when strictly carried out the customer ■who buys at an establishment -where the goods arc marked low to ensure a rapid sale must be a groat garner. G. and C. sell their drapery millinery, and clothing- at such prices for cash as gives the buyer the advantages of a shareholder in a. co-operative Society, without the risk of being called upon to bear aportion of the loss should the yeai's business prove unsatisfactory. Garlick and Cranwell will aim to retain the confidence which the public have hitherto shown them, and are determined to give the pure cash system a fair trial; whether they gain or lose the first year. Country buyers on remitting cash with order will be supplied with goods at co-operative prices ; iusr^f-he same as though they made a personal selec io \. Furnishing goods, such as carpets, floor cloths, bedsteads, bed '3u;p and gehcrai house furniture, the largest portion of which is turned out at our own factory, will be marked at the lowest remunerative prices, and a discount of five per cent, will be allowed to thosc_ who pay at the time of purchase. G. &C. having realised the entire value of their stock during their late cash sale, the present stock is nkw Avd cheaply bought. An inspection is invited. — Garuck and Cranwbll, City Hall Furnishing Arcade Oueenstreet. Auckland
