Health of President Garfield. Washington, September 3. President Garfield , haying sufficiently recovered to be moved, has been conveyed to Long Branch. He arrived safely.
Tunisian Affairs. London, September 5.
A report published by- the Morning Post that Roustah, the French resident in Tunis, had urged Government to depone the Bey and occupy Tunis, is now fully denied. Mr Dilke, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs is now in Paris, where he is conferring with Pierra, Minister of Commerce, in regard to Angolo-French commercial relations.

Auckland, Last Night. Four thoroughbred mares and two foals imported by the Stud Company arrived by the steamer Albion. The mares are Atlantis, Bergore, Madcap and Rosette. They have all arrived in excellent condition. The Albion has arrived from Sydney,
and was admitted to pratique. A portable house was shipped onboard the Kotuku, built by the Auckland Timber Company to the order of Mr Halcombe. The frame of the building was put together at the yard, every piece being fitted and marked so distinctly that any man can put it together and erect the building on the required site. This is a sample order for a house on the Patetere Land Association's property.
The Caledonian Beef.
Thames, Last Night. The reef in the Caledonian mine continues to look well, mineral indications being everything desirable. Several pounds of fair stone were obtained today, and the general idea from its appearance is that it will crush well. The manager starts crushing a trial parcel tomorrow.
Christchurch, Last Night.
Forty thousand trout ova have been hatched at the Acclimatisation Society's gardens this season. Last year 37,000 were hatched.
Donkdin, Last Night.
Peter Adams, farmer at Taicn, was killed by the wheels of his dray passing over him. He leaves a wife and three children.
