CAMBRRIDGE EAST SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the above committee was held at the fcehool- room, Cambridge, at 7 o'clock on Monday evening lust, when there were present Sergfc. Maj ir Heaney (mthe chair), Me-wn Morris, Mackintosh Nixon, and the, Rev,*. Bull aud Evans. The minutes of the previous meptinjr were read and confirmed. — It was resolved that 500 school notices be printed, and that the Committoe take some action in reference to the establishment' of a Ehsjh School in Wtukato. — Resolved that, Mr Stewart make cut preliminary notices for children whose attendance at school wan irregular. — >ho Committee entered into en enquiry into the complaint made by the boy Hutchinson, aged about 13 years, who was flogged by" the schoolmaster BOtno time a«o. After some consideration of the, cirou instances, the Committee came to the conclusion that the boy had infringed one of tho well-known rules of the school, and received a punishment previously notified by the teacher. They however expreHaed their opinion (in resolution) that while a^isfcmic the teacher to carry out the discipline of the school, they thought excessive punishment was annecesxary.—lt was finally resolved that the Chairman apply to the Board of Education for desk feet for the new forms. — This was all the businenB.
