SERIOUS AFFRAY IN A CAMBRIDGE CAFE.

Ox Saturday evening last two men, named respectively Robert Stewart and William Millet, went into the diningrooms of Mr Hugh Kelly, in Victoriastreet, Cunbudge, with the intention of having something to eat. Both men were somewhat the worse for liqupr, and after having disposed of a cup ot tea each, rose to leave the ■ house. On the ' landlord (Kelly) applying for his remuneration both men, it is said, became obstreperous and refused to pay. The landlady then made her appearance on the scene, and proceeded to force her legitimate claim. The men, however, refused to pay, and between the excitement of the landlord and landlady and the unbearable attitude assumed by the delinquents, matters began to assume a serious aspect. Kelly so far forgot himself as to lift a 41b. weight off the counter, with which he struck Stewart, inflicting a deep gash, and then proceeded to oust the other man. With the assistance of a few bystanders, Stewart was taken into the house of a neighbor, where his wound, which was bleeding profusely, was dressed, whilst Millet began to revenge himself by kicking the door of the restaurant and lighting the landlady, who eventually proved too much for her antagonist. Constable Brennan was immediately sent for, and Kelly arrested and brought before Colonel Lyon, who admitted him to bail — himself in £100 and two sureties of £50 each. He was brought up again before Mr R. B. Walker, J.P., yesterday, and remanded to Friday. Stewart is out of danger.
