RUAPUKE. The Raglan Stone.

It is gratifying to be in a position to t write that at last the Raglan stone is to have a thorough trial, some of our most enterprising and energetic settlers having ta2sen the matter in hand, secured the . alrvioes ot a ' thorou/ly practical man from Auckland to inspect the deposits of stone in the district and also to give an opinion as to its value for practical purposes. His verdict, I am happy to say, was of such a character as to induce them to form a company to be called the "ttaglan Stone Company," having for its object the quarrying and exportation of the stone. The company have secured a portion of the Hon. Henry Chamberlain's fina estate upon which there is an almost inexhaustible supply of the article they desire. Upon this they mean to commence operations at once. Already the materials required for the erection of a wharf and tramway have been added, with the object of rendering the shipment of this stone as easy as possible. The quarry will be in one of the most sheltered and picturesque bays of the Raglan Harbour. The stone is on all sides admitted to be of the best quality, and when properly known should meet with a ready sale. The undertaking is in tho hands of good men, and I feel confident that no effort on their part will be spared to make it a success. That such may be the case is my earnest desire, and all persons anxious for the prosperity of this district should, I think, share the baiue feeling. — (Own Correspondent, August 19th.)
