Native Obstruction. New Plymouth, Saturday.
The natives have again commenced ho obstruct the roads near Parihaka. Yesterday morning the men constructing a bridge on the road between Puugarehu and Rahotu were stopped by the natives, who assembled in great numbers. A messenger was at once despatched to Pungarehu, and the constabulary were ordered to proceed to the spot to protect the workmen. The natives refused to leave after the constabulary arrived. Mr Parris and Major Tuke were sent for, and they took their departure for camp this morning. The reason the natives have obstructed the work is, they say, because the Government is encroaching upon their land.
