A proposal was made by Mr Dillon and seconded by, Mr Hadfield < ') That balance-sheet be passed as read.l : ; —Mr Career, proposed, an, amendment to the effect "That the balance-sheet be, not passed. — Mr Carter was the contractor, for the erection of Heather's creek bridge it wjbioh. a ,peiialty pf ,fivp, ponpds/ had ; be^ enforced by the latev^a^rdVwhifhf ajsfc cnpph 4i^aB^d.Wm ks Ba,mm< objeotea to two receipto given by i flinj;ip w ; Mr Lang for moneys received from the
I Board bein,f allowed to pass, on the plea that he had [not stamped them himself. LA good deal of time was wasted in tifying to satisfy Mr Carter that if he had any claim against the Board his proper course was to sue for such and not impede the business of a public meeting. It was pointed out that if any penalty were incurred by not stamping the receipts at time of receiving money it would be the recipient who would bo amenable for it. The balanre- sheet having been passed Mr E. Vickers proposed and Mr R. Drabble seconded the following ratepayers as Trustees for ensuing year :-— F. W. Lang, F. J. Vickers, J. McKnight, W. Alderson, and H. Hadfield. Mr R. Carter proposed James Davys and C. B. Vickers m place of F. J. Vickers and H. Hadfield, no one appearing willing to second this, Mr Hadfield himself came to Mr Carter's rescue. Mr Chaa. Vickers declined to stand and Mr McKoighfc also expressed a wish to retire, but a ballot was taken, resulting as follows :— W. Alderson, 14, F. W. Lang, 13, F. J. Vickers, 13, H. Hadfield, 12, James Davys, 10, J. McKnight, 9. — Messrs Chas. Vickers and Mr Dillon acted as scrutineers, Messrs John Glasson and Walter Reid were again appointed auditors, and R. Carter and H. J. Davys, fence viewers. — Mr Dillon, on behalf of the Mangapiko district, asked the meetto authorise the new Board to make a grant of £50 towards opening a road to Ohaupo, through a portion of the Mangapiko district, if they, the Board saw fit to do so. Some little discussion took place on the subject, all present admitted it would be a great advantage to residents in this district to get the road Open, but in the present state of the Board's finances, it was not deemed prudent that the meeting should commit itself by passing a resolution of the kind. At the same time it was agreed that every effort should be made by this district to promote the opening of this road. In discussing this question Mr Lang pointed out that the late Board had, during the past year voted a sum of three hundred pounds to open the road through Mr James Williamsons property connecting Ngahinepoun Flat with Rukuhia railway station, which vote would seriously affect the Board's revenue for the next three j year*, as the money was payable out of rates as they became due on Mr Williamsons property. — Cemetery : A piece of land was given by the Waste Lands Board last year for a cemetery ; it was agreed by the meeting that the incoming Board should be empowered to grant a sum not exceeding £6 for the purpose of getting the said ground properly vested in trustees, and defraying and other expenses connected with it. — A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the proceedings.— At a meeting of the new Board, MrF. W.Lang was again appointed chairman. — [Correspondent].
