Cambridge, Last Night. > - Since morning the natives have been enjoying themselves knocking about the town, and indulging in European pastimes. There, is a plentiful supply of food for their use and good shelter. Mr Maclean has given a 50-acre paddock for their horses, Tawhiao and Eewi have
expressed themselves greatly pleased with the reception accorded tliem by the people of Cambridge, especially the dinner given inßaynes'Hotellasfcnight. They earnestly desire that the Government should have nothing whatever to do in connection with their visit, aud that it should be an affair exclusively of the people themselves. Tihey have consented to stop here until Monday morning as guests of the townspeople, and the Reception Committee have met this evening to consider tho further means of providing 1 for the wants of their visitors until then. At the meeting referred to, a second supply of provisions to the value of several pounds was subscribed, and it wae unanimously agreed that a subscription hat bhould be sent round, so as to gather in other contributions. The committee are already £25 in debt. The natives will treat the townspeople to another war dance at 2 o'clock as a manifestation of their gratitude and appreciatien of the Europeans generosity extended them since their arrival. All are exceedingly well behaved, sober, and generous. Tawhiao, when passing through the town, is always escorted by a armed guard. A fireworks display will be given tornight. It is now generally believed that the King, Wahanui, Rewi, and follows remain here till Monday. Two bullocks are coming in for food from Maclean's. Other provisions will also be given by the committee, two more barrels of beer issued to the natives have been disposed of. Tawhiao and other chiefs are perambulating the township. Several more tons of potatoes are coming iv for them.
