PRESENTATION TO MR C. LAISHLEY, OF THE UNION BANK, HAMILTON
When a few days ago it became known that; the authorities of the Union Bank had notified Mr. LaLshley that his services weic immediately requited for opening a bianch at Hawera on the West Coast, all classes were unanimous in their ex-pre-sions of regret at his departure. It was felt on all hands that he should not bR allowed to leave us without an expre*sion of our appreciation of his many good qualities, and notice was given privately that his many friends should meet together on Friday, 16th, and discuss the form that the presentation should take, when it was unanimously resolved that an address should be presented to him with a purse ol sovereigns, in order that Mrs Liiishley might purchase some memento of their stay in Waikato. A committee was formed for carrying out the proposition, and yesterday morning, just before ten o'clock, some of our principal settleis, among whom were noticed Captain Steele, Messrs W. C. Breakell, W. H. Pcxrce, R. Gwynne, J. Moses, I. R Vialon, S. E. G. Smith, (Waikato Timks), and those whose names are appended to the address. The Rev. William Calder, in presentnig the address, said that the people for whom he spoke were much grieved by the news given them of Mr Laishloy's departure, and expressed, in happy terms the appreciation which the countryside had for him, and while feeling very sorry for themselves, his friends all united in congratulations at Ins advance in the service ot the Bank. He then read the address. Mr Laishley replied, thanking those present for this \eiy kind expression of their esteem. He would always remember his sojourn in Waikato with great pleasure, and this address wouM be a pleasing memento. The company then separated, many of them going down to the station to say tli6ir adicuv. The address is being engrossed, ornamented, and framed by Mrs Calder, and will be on view at Mr R. F. Sandes'o this week.

Mr Buckland's next Cambridge Horse Sale takes place on batuiday next. We bog to call special attention to the important sale of household furniture and thoroughbred stock, winch will be held by Mr Kennedy Hill, at the residence of Mr W. Price, Hamilton, at noon to-morrow. From the high class of both furniture and stock, ■we antic ipate there will be a large attendance. Messrs W. J. Hunter and Co. will hold their next horse market on Saturday, August 6th. Messrs W. J. Hunter and Co. will sell, immediately on arrival from Napier, 60 choice fat o\cn. The same firm will sell fat cattle, dairy cows, Sec., at the Cambridge jards on Thursday, the 28th inst. Mr J. S. Buckland will sell a quantity of trees, shrubs, quirks, &c, 'from the nursery of Mr John Sharp, at Ohaupo, on Tuesday next. ' The annual meeting of "the ratepayers of the Hamilton Highway District will be held at' the Railway Hotel, Fiankton, on Saturday next, at noon. The brethren of Lodge Abner, L.0.L., will meet at the Lodge-room at 7.30 o'clock tomorrow evening. Visiting brethren ate in\ ited. The new pure cash syatem now being initiated by d. and C. will certainly prove a. benefit to the public. It has been a great success in Sydney and Melbourne, and when strictly carried out, the customer who buys at an establishment where the goods are marked low to ensure a rapid sale must be a_ great gainer. G. and C. sell their drapery millinary, and clothing at such prices for cash as gives the buyer the advantages of a shareholder of a co-operative society, without the risk of being called upon to bear aportion of the loss should the year's business prove unsatisfactory. Garlick and Cranwell will aim to retain the confidence which the public have hitherto shown them, and a.re determmed,to give the pure cash system a fair trial; whether they gj.in or lose the first year. Country buyers on remitting cash with order will be supplied with goods at co-operative prices ; just the same as though they made a. personalselection. Furnishing goods, such ,as carpets, floor cloths, bedsteads, bedding, and general house furniture, the largest portion of which is turned out at our own factory, will be marked at ' the lowest remunerative prices/ahd a discounted five £er cent, will be allowed to those'who pay at the time of purchase. G. St. C. having realised the entire value of their stock during their late* cash s^le, the present stock is new and cheaply bought.
