PRESENTATION TO MR E. M. EDGCUMBE.

Mr E. M. Edgcumbe, who for the past eighteen months has been associated with the Waikato Times, in the capacity of part proprietor and editor,' left Hamilton yesterday morning for Auckland) en route for 'England. Previous to his departurethe members of the literary, business, and typographical departments of this journal took occasion to present Mr Edgcnmbe with a short farewell address, accompanied by a gold pencil case. The presentation was made in the composingroom, on behalf of the staff, , by Mr S. E. G. Smith, who read the address as follows :— i > " \ 'lo Ji. M. JEdgcumbl, Esq., J.P. Dear Sir, — On the evo of your departure for England, we desire to present you ' with the accompanying small token Ot oui regard tor you, and our appreciation of the kindness and courtesy you have accorded us during thp time you have been proprietor and editor ot the Wvikuo TiMbs. Wishing you a safe and pleasant voyage horne — We remain, dear sir, very iaithtully yours. —[Here follow the signatures.] Mr Edgcumbe replied in feeling terms, thanking the members of the staff for their good wishes. They had always got along on the best possible terms with one another, and he hoped they had given mutual satisfaction. He paid a high compliment to the ability of the composing staff, and in particular referred to the great progress which had been made by the apprentices, under the able tuition of the foreman. Mr Edwards. He regretted that circumstances should have arisen which necessitated, his going to England, but he hoped it would not be many months before he would again set his foot in New Zealand. When he did so, Hamilton would be the first place to which he would pay a visit. He thanked them very cordially for their handsome present and kind address. "The health of Mr Edgcumbe, and a safe voyage home" having been drunk, the proceedings were brought to a close.
