THE KING TO VISIT CAMBRIDGE ON SATURDAY. [BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH, OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT .] Kihikihi, Yesterday.
Tawhiao and party remain here to-cl.iy as Rewi's guests. Yesterday the King visited Major Jackson at his residence. The Te Awamutu baud played in front of Rewi's house, and in return the natives gave a war dance and several hakas. Tawlnao's sons with other chiefs and Major Jackson are now out rabbit shooting. .Should the weather prove propitious, the king will leave here to-morrow for Cambridge, via Rangiaohia. I hear that Mr John Grice will entertain Tawhiao and party at Rotorangi. The reception given by the Kihikihi inhabitants to Tawhiao niid party has given them great satisfaction. I fear the Waikato people will yet kill them witli kindness.
Our reporter writes yesterday : — Great indignation was manifested in Cambridge this morning on receipt of a telegram from Major Man 1 atKihikihi, which stated that Tawhiao and party would not be in Cambridge that day. When this information was received, Mr Wells wired back to Major Mair asking him to bring the king over himself in a buggy, as every preparation was made, and let his followers come in time. In reply to this, Major Mair said Tawhiao could not go that day, which was owing in a great measure to Rewi, who says that his house was built for the pakehas and Tawhiao to meet in; and he would not let Tawiiiao go so soon. The interest which has for the past few days been manifested in the native visit is beginning to die out, and not only this, but the quantity of provisions provided for the native use, consisting of fish, flesh, and bread, is becoming useless.
