PREPARATIONS AT CAMBRIDGE. (BY TELEGRAPH, OWN REPORTER ) Cambridge, Last Night.

When it became known this afternoon in Cambridge that the Maori king Tawhiao would pay a visit to the township on the following day, a few gentlemen began to bestir themselves in the matter of suitably receiving His Majesty and friends. Placards were posted up lound the town in tho afternoon announcing that a public meeting Mould be held in the lull at ,'} p.m. At tho appointed hour a good few townspeople attended, and Mr Campbell took the chair. After some discussion, Mr Kirkwood moved — "That contiibutions lie solicited towards entertaining Tawhiao 's followers, and that a committee consisting of the following gentlemen : — Messrs Walker, Isaacs, Hewitt, Kirkwood, Johnson, Dick, Hughes, Reid, Houghton, and Campbell, be appointed to obtain contributions.'" This proposition on being seconded by Mr Isaacs, was put and canied. It was then proposed by Mr Wells — "That the committee prepare an address of welcome to Tawhiao, and that the hall committee be requested to place the hall at the disposal ot the followers during their stay in Cambridge. " This was seconded by Mr Kirkwood and carried. Messrs Walker, Fergusson, and Maclean w ill entertain the king at a dinner at Raynes' hotel, and it is expected that he (Tawhiao) will aruve about 2 o'clock. A subset iption list was opened in the hull, and the following contributions were received : — Mr X ]>.
