THE VISIT TO TE AWAMUTU. [BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH, OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.]
Te Awamutu, Last Night. Tawhiao and party were well received here, the Te Awamutu Band playing the party in to the tune of " The King of the Cannibal Island I ." Arriving at Lewi3* Hotel, Mr Sloaue, on behalf of the*inhabitants, invited the king and Major Mair to a 1 banquet, togethei' with the chiefs accompanying them. The followers were well looked after outside, and after refreshments gavo several dances and hakas to a large assemblage of the inhabitants. Mr Walton presided at the dinner, with Mr Sloane as Vice-Chainnan. The toast of the " Queen" was of course firs' given, and wan loyally ie-<ponded to by Tawhiao and all present amid cheers. The Chairman proposed " Tawhiao, the Maori Kinaf," in a most h.ippy manner. Tawhiao suitably responded. Major Mail's health was drank enrhusiatically, and responded to. The " Parliament and Mi Whitakcr"' was propoiaed by Captain Rutherford, and responded to by Major Jackson. Mr Stephen Westney proposed " The union of the two i aces'" in a happy spoech. This was responded to by "Wahanui. who congratulated all on their happy meeting. Other toasts were given and responded to. Honana also returned thanks for the reception. The party remain heie to-night.
