NGARUAWAHIA.
The Waipa, Pepepe, and Ngaruawahia settlers are getting up a petition requesting assistance from Government towards opening up the district west of Ngaruawahia. The cause of the want of competition for Ngaruawahia lands at the late sale was due in a great measure to the suburban, and town lots not being offered on the same day. Settlers cannot afford the expense of attending so many sales. It is to be hoped the authorities will take steps to secure a suitable site for a Court-house. The Domain Board are taking steps to have the pubilc racecourse ploughed and fenced forthwith. Mr Crawford, one of Whatawhata's enterprising settlers, has started running a two-horse coach between here and the latter place. It is, to be hoped that hia efforts will be appreciated by' the travelling public and settlers generally. I know he will have my vote at the next Board election, although Mr Day appears to be a favorite down , here.— [Correspondent, July B.] '".,,
