TE AROHA. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Mr McLarens Inspection.
Mr McLarens mission is being vigorously accomplished, and the following licensed holdings have been served with notice that they will be forfeited unless the regulations to man the ground are complied within 10 days, uamely the Bonanza, Prospectors, Morning Star, Smile of Fortune, Bright Star, Wheel ot Fortune, No. 1 South, Hot Spring Reserve, No. 2 South, Uxiited, Golden Gate, Crown, Lucky Hit, Tui, and others. The following claims have been served with notice that on July 9th it is the intention of the inspector to file a certificate that they have been abandoned if in the meantime no valid objection is given. Namely, Rose of Denmark, Who'd have thought it, Early Dawn, Last Hope, Our Boys', Prosperity, Lone Star, No. 2, Eureka, Lucky Hit, Waihekel Waihou, Golden Anohor, Golden Field, Omaha No. 1, Native, New Zealand, Hapapiu, Whakapipi, Inverness, Early Morn, Treaty of Waitangi, Luck at Last, Homestead, Moonlight, nailor's Home, Marvel. Forlorn Hope, Shotover and others. The! Buck Reef, Napier, and Rose Thistle and Shamrock will be served with like notices if it be found that they are not being, worked. A large number, of business artel ' resident's rights which have been taken up under the impression that the field was going a-head at once will also be disposed of. I have given the names of claims &c.' in full, as I arii told that their publication is desirable. These steps will make a clearance, and, it is to bo hoped, have the effect of actual cautery, m causing new and more wholesome blood to.ta.ke the place of ,what was no use, and the ground will then be open for the operations of the prospecting parties that are to start as soon as possible. It would seem to be rather disheartening to mark the long list of disappointed anticipations that were formed over these claims, some of which seemed so particularly justifiable, but it is really no more than has always taken place with every other gold, diggings, and almost every other man since the world tiegan. The mistakes made in the first excited rush have to be rectified, and the broom has^to be put in to sweep out the rubbish left by the false start, and then comes the true start with experience and perseverance for guides. It is really a very good thing for Te Arolia to get rid of all those abused leases and protections that-.fhave kept niauy of the best claims untouched, and prevented more active workers from coming in. The next thing will be perse.verance when the right ' direction- has been properly ascertained. Those men who are now so snccessful Waitekauri have been many months holding on in face of difficulties, and many a claim has been abandoned when the gold, was within 1 a few ffeet anil the 1 hew confers have, made thousands' directly.
