Rifle Match. Thames Scottish v. Hamilton Cavalry. The Scottish Victorious. [BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH,OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Last Night.

The Hamilton Cavalry team arrived here on Thursday, at noon, under Lieutenant Johnson. They were met by Major Jackson and Quarter-master Symington, of the Scottish. In the afternoon the Waikato team had a practice at the riflerange, making fair scores. The match against the Scottish was finally arranged on Thursday evening; ranges, 200, 300, and 400 yards ; seven shots at each range The Waikato men had a hot team to shoot against, but though some of ours were young to match against the Thames firing, they were all anxious to do their best. The match was fired this morning, beginning at ]0 o'clock, and resulted in a victory for the Scottish by a majority of S9 points, the scores being : — Waikato, 281 ; Scottish, 370. Excepting Lieut. Johnson, none of the Waikato team could be looked upon as representative shots, but they did well, notably Alexander and Cochrane. The Scottish had a fine team, nearly all old shots, such as Major Murray and Volunteers Downie and Weir. It is the general opinion here that had the match been carried out as originally intended with five men from each Troop, the result would have been different. The match has still further cemented the bond of unity and comradeship already existing between the two districts, and early next summer a return match will be fired at Hamilton. Both teams are invited to dinner this evening by the officers of the Scottish. They \ leave for home on Saturday afternoon.
